Comparative Theology
April 27th, 2007On Friday, April 27th, Father Antonious spoke to us about many of the differences between Orthodoxy and Protestantism. The discussion involved a detailed list of differences ranging from the saints to church services.
Environmentalism and Christianity
April 13th, 2007On Friday, April 13th, Mirette Habib discussed the importance of the environment and nature to our Christian lives. The discussion involved the original command from God to Adam to care for the earth. What can we do to care for the earth?

On Wealth and Poverty
March 12th, 2007On Friday, March 16, we discussed St. John Chrysostom’s classic book, “On Wealth and Poverty.” The book is a series of sermons on the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man (Luke 16:19-31). We discussed how St. John Chrysostom’s sermons, although hundreds of years old, are extremely applicable to our daily lives.
Attached below is the powerpoint presentation that was used at the meeting.
God willing, we will have a service activity soon for us to practically apply what St. John Chrysostom wrote about!
Council of Chalcedon
February 18th, 2007On Friday, March 2, Daniel Habib presented a brief introduction to ”The Council of Chalcedon”, a pivotal event in the history of the Church. Dan discussed not only the Council but the events leading up to the Council that were critical in understanding it.

The Pillars of the Church - Part 1: Friday, February 16
February 15th, 2007The next meeting will be led by Father John Paul on the Pillars of the Church, Part 1, Friday, February 16 at 8 pm. We will have a light dinner immediately following the Divine Liturgy (around 7:30), and then begin the meeting promptly at 8 pm. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Lenten Reading
February 15th, 2007With the beginning of the Great Lent upon us, St. Augustine’s Young Professional and Fellowship group would like to read a book together in the spirit of unity. We will be reading St. John Chrysostom’s On Wealth and Poverty for a discussion on March 16th. The book is a classic with six sermons on the story of Lazarus and the Rich Man (Luke 16.) More details about that meeting to come!
If you are interested in having a copy of this book, you can purchase it at the next meeting for $10. Alternatively, this book can be ordered online for $12.

The Divine Liturgy

His Grace Bishop Angaelos Lectures!
January 16th, 2007We were blessed to have an excellent lecture given by His Grace Bishop Angaelos last night, and we are additionally blessed to have another lecture tonight, January 16 at 7 pm in Natick!
Please note that we will not be meeting on the 19th.
His Grace Bishop Angaelos, the General Bishop of Stevenage in the UK (the Coptic Centre’s website http://www.copticcentre.com/), is an excellent speaker and frequently speaks at conventions to youth of all ages on topics that relate to our lives. If you are free tonight, we encourage you to attend the meetings and receive His Grace’s blessings.
